当センターは設立当時，教育研究の材料の把握を主たる目的とした生物相調査が，斎藤報恩会の支援を受けて開始されました．そしてその成果が，1926 年から 1943 年にかけて，「東北帝國大學理科報告（生物學）[英：The Science Reports of the Tôhoku Imperial University, 4th Series(Biology)]」に「Report of the Biological Survey of Mutsu Bay」の名を冠したシリーズ（37報）として掲載されました．このシリーズは，青森県陸奥湾，特に浅虫周辺の，原生生物から多細胞動物まで多岐にわたる生物群の基礎的な情報を充実させました．ここでは各論文へのリンクとその論文で扱われる動物を示しています．
