体長約3, 4 cm．体は楕円形で，背中は黄褐色に褐色の斑点が一様に散布している．潮間帯の転石の裏側などにおり，石をひっくり返すとあわてて逃げ出す．肉食性で，巻貝を包み込むように覆い被さって摂餌している個体を見かける．
