Oct 26, 2023 Kawamura-san, Miyazawa-san, Yamasaki-san, Kumano, and technical staff members Washio-san and Abe-san went to Kominato and out on a boat off the Kominato Fishing Port to collect morning-type ascidians. Washio-san dived twice this time to compensate for unavailbility of same type ascidians from Ushirogata resulted from their mass death due to the intense heat this summer (Pictures 1, 2, 3).

Nov 14-19, 2016 Tao-san, Fujiki-san, Nakamoto-san and Kumano participated in the joint meeting of the 22nd International Congress of Zoology and the 87th Meeting of the Zoological Society of Japan, which was held in Okinawa. Kumano orgnized a symposium "Mechanical regulation of morphogenetic processes in diversified animals" and gave a talk there, and Nakamoto-san and Fujiki-san had poster presentations (Abstracts 1, 2, 3, Pictures 1, 2). Fujikisan's presentation was the first presentation about our new jellyfish projects.

This course brought together small gorups of Japanese and international students to learn together basic marine biology and was organized through a collaboration between Profs. Martin Robert from IEHE, Tohoku University, Ian Gleadall from the Graduate School of Agriculture, Tohoku University, Nakamoto-san, Kumano and Yasuyuki Matsuda from the University of Tokyo (Article, Pictures 1, 2, 3).

August 16, 2016 Dr. Alex McDougall from Observatoire Oceanologique in Villefranche-sur-mer, France, arrived at the center to operate educational and research activities on a bivalve species and will stay until 26th.

June 9, 2016 In a project to cultivate morning-type Halocynthia adults near Asamushi in collaboration with a local fisherman, we took out some of the juvenils on the ropes, which had been grown since last December in the aquarium of the Asamushi Center, into the sea for better conditions (Juveniles in the sea since last January; juveniles moved into the sea this time; ropes with juveniles hanging in the sea).
